Dressings

The main function of a dressing is to cover a wound. This will protect the wound from further abrasion, from infection and will help to stem any bleeding.

HSE Medium and Large dressings should be present in all First Aid kits. These consist of a pad of dressing attached to a length of bandage.

They can be used to cover all wounds and are secured by means of the bandage, in all First Aid situations.

These dressings are sterile and it is important that the packaging is intact and the expiry date is checked before application.

Melolin Dressings
Melolin Dressings have a shiny surface, which when placed against an open wound will not adhere. Upon removal no disturbance of the healed wound will occur. Melolin Dressings require adhesive tape to hold them in place.

Primapore Dressings
Primapore Dressings consist of a non adherent pad surrounded by flexible adhesive webbing. This provides a really useful dressing that can be applied to awkward areas.
