Eye Irrigation

Liquid for eye irrigation should be made available where there is no running water, or in an area where a quick response is needed to any eye contamination thus saving time.

A sterile solution of 0.9% sodium chloride is ideal.

For areas where there is risk of chemical contamination it is best to have at least two 500ml bottles available with intact seals.

Smaller volumes are available, such as 150ml, for less serious contamination.

For minor specs of dust, pods or sachets containing 20ml can be particularly helpful.

In all cases these items are single use and should not be used if open.

They have expiry dates which should be checked regularly.

Eye baths should not be used.
